Area (ft)

Quick fill:

How do I measure this?
  1. Run a tape measure along one wall at floor level - that's the length.
  2. Measure the wall at a right angle to it - that's the width. For an L-shaped room, split it into rectangles and add them up.
  3. Write both numbers down before you shop - a phone photo of the tape works great.

Presets are rough starters - measure your real room before ordering.

Flagstone patio paving with a price tag - patio cost calculator

How to estimate

  1. Measure the area you're covering - length × width.
  2. Pick the grade or material that matches your project.
  3. Read the estimated installed cost range for your area.

What drives the cost

  • Surface material - poured concrete is cheapest; concrete and brick pavers cost more, natural stone and flagstone most.
  • Base prep - excavation, a compacted gravel base and sand bedding are most of a paver patio's labor.
  • Pattern and finish - stamped concrete, herringbone pavers and cut stone take more time than a plain slab.
  • Shape and edges - curves, borders and steps add cutting and labor.
  • Drainage and grading - sloped or poorly draining sites need extra prep.
  • Local labor rates - the biggest regional swing.

Frequently asked questions

How much does it cost to build a patio?
Installed, a poured-concrete patio runs about $6–$15 per square foot, concrete or brick pavers $12–$24, and natural stone $20–$35 (labor + materials). A 12×16 ft (192 ft²) paver patio lands roughly $2,300–$4,600. Enter your size above.
Are pavers or concrete cheaper for a patio?
A poured-concrete slab is cheaper upfront ($6–$15/ft²) than pavers ($12–$24). Pavers cost more to install but resist cracking and can be lifted and repaired individually, so many homeowners find them cheaper long-term.
Does a stamped or patterned finish cost more?
Yes. Stamped or stained concrete and intricate paver patterns (herringbone, circles, borders) need more time and skill, pushing a concrete patio toward $12–$18/ft² and pavers toward the top of their range.
Why is this only an estimate?
Base prep, pattern, edging, drainage and local labor all move the price. Use this national-average range as a starting point, then get local quotes.
