Rolls to buy
-
Wall area: -
💡 A spare roll is included - buy all rolls from one batch number.
⚠️ Don't subtract doors or windows - wallpaper hangs in full strips.

How to use this wallpaper calculator
- Measure the perimeter - the total distance around all the walls you're papering - in feet.
- Enter your ceiling height and choose your roll type (single, double or triple).
- Read the number of rolls to buy - it already adds waste and one spare, and updates live.
How many rolls of wallpaper you need
Wall area is the perimeter (the distance around the room) multiplied by the ceiling height. A single roll covers about 27 ft², a double about 54 ft², and a triple about 81 ft². Don't subtract windows and doors - you hang full drops and match the pattern across them, so those areas are still part of the layout. Because only about 85–95% of each roll is usable once you allow for pattern repeats and trimming, the calculator adds 10% waste and one extra roll, so you finish the job - and keep a spare for repairs - without a second trip to the store.
Frequently asked questions
- How many rolls of wallpaper do I need?
- Multiply the room's perimeter by the ceiling height to get the wall area, then divide by your roll's coverage (about 27 ft² single, 54 ft² double, 81 ft² triple). Add roughly 10% for waste and one spare roll. This calculator does all of that for you - just enter your measurements above.
- Should I subtract windows and doors?
- No. Wallpaper is hung in full floor-to-ceiling drops, and you cut around windows and doors while matching the pattern, so those wall sections still use paper from the same rolls. Measuring the full perimeter keeps enough on hand to line up the repeat. Only for a very large opening - like a wall of patio doors - is it worth deducting.
- What's the difference between single, double and triple rolls?
- It's the same width of paper, just longer bolts. A single roll covers about 27 ft², a double about 54 ft², and a triple about 81 ft². Most wallpaper today is sold as double rolls even when it's priced as singles, so check the label - longer rolls mean fewer seams and often less waste.
